uklinux.net is free of all charges as long as you connect using our dial-up access for at least 1 hour per month, averaged over a rolling three month period. We get a (small) income from your telephone charges.

Free Accounts

Free accounts at uklinux.net offer :-

Unlimited access for both modem and ISDN users with speeds up to 128kb/s
Unlimited email addresses in the form anything@username.uklinux.net
A choice of either POP3 or SMTP for email delivery
10MB of mailbox space (20MB for subscription accounts)

You will find that the connectivity and throughput that you get when dialled in to uklinux.net should be much better than with freecall isp's that you can never get connected to. We do not drop the line if you are on for a period of time, or if the connection is inactive for a period of time.
We provide a 'home' for you on the internet that is independent of whatever other isp's, free services, university accounts etc that you use.
You can signup to uklinux .net online now - we ask for your proper name and address details to be entered. Once you have signed up you will be given details of how to dial in to uklinux.net. You will have to dial in to your account once before it will be authorised to receive email, publish web pages etc. We will also check your account details before authorising your web site to go live.
You will only be able to collect or send email when dialled in through uklinux.net - unless you upgrade your account to a 'standard membership account. (see below). You will be able to upgrade your account at a later date if you do not do so now.
Remember that to keep a free account you must connect to uklinux.net using our access telephone nos for at least one hour per month, otherwise you will need to upgrade your membership to keep the account

Standard Membership

If you cannot dial in to uklinux.net because you are overseas, or you do not want to because you have an account with another isp or BTsurftime, adsl etc then you can still take advantage of the facilities offered by uklinux.net by becoming a member. You can also become a member just to make a donation to uklinux.net, or to avoid the need to dial in for 1 hour per month to keep a free account. Membership lasts for 12 months and costs £30.00 .
The facilities offered are the same as for free accounts without the requirement to dial in to uklinux.net to be authorised or to dial in for 1 hour per month.
As an additional benefit Standard membership allows you to have mail forwarded and to collect and send email* from your uklinux.net account when you are not dialled in to uklinux.net.
This option is aimed at people who have internet access at university or work but want to use uklinux.net as their service provider for hosting web sites etc.
Mail can be forwarded using a .forward or procmail.rc script in your home directory, or by collecting it from our authenticated pop3 server.

*In addition to remote POP3 access we are now proud to offer remote Authenticated SMTP facilities to allow you to send your email via our mail servers regardless of your location thus meaning you never have to change your mail settings again.

Silver Membership

Silver membership offers all the benefits of standard membership plus the ability to host a domain name of your choice on the uklinux.net servers in addition to www.username.uklinux.net.
Each domain will be mapped to a subdirectory of your user web space.
Email to anything@thedomain will be delivered into your uklinux.net pop3 mailbox.
Extra mailboxes are available to silver level members or above for an extra admin charge of £10 per year per extra mailbox.
Diskspace: 25MB basic + 5MB per extra domain. + £1.50 per month (£15 per year) per additional 5MB.

Silver membership costs £7.50 per month or £75.00 per year.
Additional domains can be hosted on your uklinux.net webspace for a charge of £2.50 per month or £25.00 per year per domain.
The cost of silver membership includes the cost of initial registration or transfer of a domain name.

Gold Membership

Gold membership offers all of the benefits of silver membership plus the following :-
Additional domains are charged at £1.50 per month or £15.00 per year extra per additional domain.
Logs: access to Apache access, referrer and agent logs for each domain.
Ftp: User public/anonymous ftp area within ftp.uklinux.net. Plus private ftp area mapped to subdirectory of your webspace accessed by separate username/password at ftp.uklinux.net. Additional public/private ftp areas available for hosted domains at £1.50 per month or £15.00 per year per ftp area.
Mysql: Multiple sql databases - 1 per domain - extra available at £10 per year per mysql db.
Cron: The ability to run a daily cron (timed) job for an extra admin charge of £25.00 per year.
Diskspace: 50MB basic + 10MB per extra domain

Gold membership costs £13.00 per month or £130.00 per year.
The cost of gold membership includes the cost of initial registration or transfer of a domain name.

Platinum Membership

Facilities as per gold membership plus :-
Hosting for up to 50 domains or public ftp sites or virtual pop accounts or mysql databases (50 in total).
Diskspace: 100 MB overall + £12 per year per additional 10 MB..

Platinum membership costs £30.00 per month or £300.00 per year.

E-commerce Membership

If you want to run a business on the internet then you need e-commerce membership.
Facilities are as per Gold Membership above plus :-
Use of https://username.ukssl.com https secure server included.
Ability to use https://yourdomain.com secure server (subject to purchase of certificate and £25 admin charge for setup).

E-commerce membership costs £22.50 per month or £225.00 per year

Student Discount

Students in full time education at recognised educational institutions qualify for 50% discount on all membership charges at uklinux.net. To qualify you will need to sign up as a member and pay the full price, then send by fax or post proof of your student status, ie a letter from your college, and 50% of the charge will be refunded.
Note that this discount is not application for hosting a commercial site.

Charity Discount

Registered charities qualify for 50% discount on all membership charges at uklinux.net as long as the websites are used for the purposes of the charity. To qualify you will need to sign up as a member and pay the full price, then send by fax or post proof of your charity registration status, and 50% of the charge will be refunded.

Community Projects

UKLINUX NET offers hosting completely free of charge for Open Source/Free Software Community Projects.

So if you have a project that is of benefit to the wider Free Software Community and want somewhere to host it contact us for your free Community Membership account.
